Caribbean Stud poker rules

Caribbean Stud Poker got its name from becoming a favorite game of passengers on Caribbean cruise ships.  Its a lot of fun to play, but beware, it doesn't exactly return well, with a house edge (played optimally) of around 5%.

The game is played at follows:

  1. The game starts with the player placing a bet (the ante);

  2. The player is then dealt 5 cards, face up;

  3. The dealer also received 5 cards, 1 face up, the others face down;

  4. The player may then play of fold.  If they fold, the ante if forfeited.  If they play, a bet equal to double the ante must be made (the raise);

  5. The dealer then reveals their downcards.  For the game to continue, the dealer must qualify (have an Ace and King poker hand or better);

  6. If the dealer doesn't qualify, the player wins even money on the ante, and the raise is pushed (ie no win, no loss);

  7. If the dealer does qualify, the player and dealer hands are compared, applying normal poker rankings.  If the dealer's hand wins, the player loses the ante and raise.  If the player's hand wins, the player wins even money on the ante, and gets odds on the raise, according to the quality of their hand...as set out in the following pay table
